Indoor Flying 2012

During the rainy winter/spring season many ERMA members take advantage of two local churches to get their flying "fix". The second monday of the month, we meet at the Smokey Point Community Church from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and the fourth friday of the month we meet at the LDS Church in South Everett from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. (Only one session left at the LDS Church this season on May 25th). Here are few pictures of recent events.

Smokey Point:

Float Flying At ERMA

ERMA member, Frank H. knows how to take advantage of the "wet situation" at our field. Frank states that he was able to take off and land his plane on the water that has collected around our field. This seems to be a good solution to enable year-round flying.

Well done Frank and thanks for sharing your photos.

Open House

ERMA and its members wish to thank George and Kathy Ridderbush for the wonderful time last Sunday at their open house. The home was as warm and friendly as the hosts. The food was excellent and the company fantastic. Plus we were able to tour George's collection of "planes, trains, and automobiles" (there might have been no trains, though). Thanks again for a wonderful Sunday evening.

However, let it be known George was seated approximately 10 seconds before getting up and spending the rest of the evening helping with the open house chores.

Member, Dick Brooks is shown with George's piano "decoration".

Pictured below is the wonderful Buffet table prepared by George and Kathy. (Sorry the only picture of Kathy was very poor quality due to the camera operator)

Floats for your plane

Now that summer is over and the rains have begun, we might get ready for some flying during the "wet" conditions at ERMA. The grass runway gets quite wet during the winter and does provide an opportunity to fly from floats or with a flying boat design. Here are some plans from RCM that cover the basics of designing floats for your aircraft. The usual is to cut the basic float from foam by hand shaping or hot wire cutting. These are then covered with balsa/ply and painted or covered with a film like Monokote. Mounting the floats to your plane can utilize an extra landing gear mount or bent music wire for "legs".  Download a JPG HERE

Fun Fly 2011 Wrap Up

Sept. 10th Fun Fly at the ERMA Field

Something new for the members this time was Dave's Brisket. Doesn't it look good?

Connie Arrives with the goodies.

Dawson is preparing the Pulled Pork.

Both Dawson and Dave used their Traeger Pellet Grills to cook over night so we could enjoy the BBQ at the field

ERMA wants to thank Tim's Hobby in Everett for supplying the prizes at a very reduced price. Just about all members walked away from the prize table with something.
